Last thoughts of 2014

"New Year, New Me"
This is what everyone seems to say, but people don't realize that you don't have to wait until a new year to change yourself. I never really understood why people made such a big deal out of the new year.
With that being said, what are my new year's resolutions for 2015? Here's some items I cam up with:

  1. Complete the Yelp 100 - 100 Yelp reviews within the next year. This is just something fun I wanted to try, especially since I have pretty strong opinions when it comes to food.
  2. Take more risks - I think this is just a personal life goal. Taking more risks is just a general statement, but there are a lot of things I want to do. Compliment that random stranger. Not be afraid to speak up for myself. Not worry so much about what others thing. Not be afraid to put myself out there. Introduce myself to the girl with the really cool outfit in class. The list goes on...
  3.  30 day squat challenge - I want that booty.
  4.  Be daring - Maybe I'll wear more color or maybe I'll wear buy that giant fur coat from the thrift shop (like Macklemore haha). I want to challenge myself with my style and not just wear what all the other fashion bloggers wear (unless it's something I really like). As fashion photographer Bill Cunningham once said (in regards to fashion) "A lot of people have taste, but they don't have the daring to be creative".
As you can tell this list is quite random and chaotic. I never really made new years resolutions before so let's see what happens.

2015, I'm ready for ya.

Spent my day exploring Oakland and pretending to be a tourist in a city that I grew up in. I wasn't sure what to wear so when I looked through my closet I started grabbing different items I liked and they all just happened to be black. I tend to gravitate towards black because it's easier to match with but that just results in a closet full of dark colored clothing.

Even during the holidays, I can't help but wear mainly black and white. My friends and I had our annual white elephant holiday party. We were supposed to wear ugly sweaters but I just didn't have the time to make or get one. I just wore one of the  wackiest sweaters I had - which is actually one of my favorite sweaters. I purchased it from Macy's a while ago, it's a black and white striped sweater but the white stripes have fur coming out of it which just adds so much texture to the sweater and my entire outfit when I wear it. I also had on my festive and fuzzy snowman socks - which just look like normal socks peeking out of my boots. So much fun, food, and Polaroids with my friends.

Oversized sweater with a light top and big floppy hat. This is what I wore to a bbq in the fall. Also had on these super comfortable leggings with leather on the sides. FYI: it is quite difficult to walk on a path of rocks in heels. I love how my big floppy hat completely changes the look of this outfit into something more dramatic.

Blue and black with a hint of white. Simple pieces paired with my houndstooth tights. An outfit for when it's not quite freezing cold but also not warm enough to leave the house without a jacket - basically the weather for all of fall.

Black and white, my favorite colors to wear! I wanted to create a look suitable for fall but today was just so warm that I probably would've died in a sweater. I think this is a great outfit to wear when transitioning from warmer to cooler weather. A light kimono to keep me warm and cover up my crop top. Over the knee socks so I can still wear shorts when it's not too hot outside.

No crop top? No problem.

The thing I love about thrifting is that you can find pieces with unique and quirky patterns that you can't get anywhere else. This vintage floral patterned top reminds me of old wallpaper patterns found in homes and it's not a common item you can get at most retail stores. Found this button up top at Savers Thrift store and cut off the sleeves. I'm not that great with DIY so I don't trust myself cutting up a top to turn it into a crop top. However, I LOVE wearing crop tops, so I usually tie up bottom ends of my top into a knot to create my own crop top without the commitment or sacrifice of my actual shirt.

Today was such a gloomy day. Ordered a hot chai tea latte from the local coffee shop, which was perfect for today's chilly weather. Also got a picture of the pretty flowers outside of the shop. My outfit was inspired by my housemate when I saw her coming down the stairs with a denim jacket tied around her waist. I've seen people do this and decided to try this trend myself with my thrifted jean jacket.

This is an old picture but I thought I should still write about it. I'm wearing a boy's shirt. I don't know why but I've recently been loving wearing clothes from the men's section. I used to make fun of my friends for shopping there. I don't usually shop in the men's section, this shirt is actually an old shirt my guy friend didn't want anymore (which is where I get most of my boy clothes). I tucked this over-sized shirt into a small section of my shorts so that I wouldn't drown in the shirt and to show that I was actually wearing something underneath it. Added a snapback to go with the tomboy-ish vibe and my knee high socks because I love them so much. This is what I would call a lazy day outfit haha!

Spent my day getting some work done at a coffee shop. I love my new Calvin Klein wallet. So simple and elegant, which is what I love about Calvin Klein. I've been wanting to read 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami for the longest time. This 1,000 page book is going to take a while to finish though. They say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but this is one of my favorite book cover designs which is one of the things that drew me to this book. I attempted last summer but got lost with all the work of school and other commitments that I couldn't find the time to read. It's nice reading in a coffee shop - my very first experience doing something like this. I accidentally dropped my bookmark and the man sitting next to me was nice enough to make an attempt to get it for me. Too bad it fell right underneath my chair so he couldn't really reach it.

Chill day today. Loving my giant floppy hat - been wanting one for the longest time! Accessories like that really spice up an outfit. Wearing my new (sort of) leopard print kimono that I thrifted. The weather is so hot up here that it's difficult to create an outfit that you won't melt in.

This is basically what I consider my everyday uniform to be. I usually wear a some variation of this outfit. Usually all black with a hint of color (white). I love over-the-knee socks because they allow me to still wear my favorite shorts even when the weather does not permit it. Also wearing my favorite thrifted cardigan. This picture doesn't do it justice because the whole thing is this beautiful detailed lace? (I'm not sure if it's considered lace..). I love making a knot with my tops to turn them into crop tops (inspired by Jenn Im) since I don't have a lot of crop tops and can't commit to cutting up my tops.

Late post, but my outfit for Valentine's Day. I guess it is a bit morbid to wear all black on Valentine's day. I personally find wearing pink and hearts a bit tacky. Valentines day was not the best day for me this year because I missed my shuttle back home which just caused a lot of stress and trouble. However, even though I was having a bad day, that doesn't mean I can't still look nice. I tried to play with textures with my knit sweater, leather skirt, and thrifted jean jacket to balance this overall dark outfit.

OOTD 1.27.13

Mondays can be more fun if you dress up. My outfit for January 27 even though it's February right now. Rocking my new black chiffon maxi skirt from H&M and this crazy printed top that I thrifted. It's one those items where you can't find anywhere else. First time rocking my new middle part. I also have some platform wedges on which is how I managed to prevent my skirt from dragging across the floor.
